5.0 out of 5 stars Great narrative
This is an immensely enjoyable read, merging Goldman Sachs' economic analysis, Jim O'Neill's many BRIC anecdotes and insightful geopolitical comment. A very easy read, great for anyone travelling to one of the BRICs or other emerging economies. It would have benefitted, however, from more careful editing in places as the text is, at times, at odds with the charts.

I did not take to this book. The analysis of countries prospects is defined by a scoring on various metrics which Goldman Sachs has come up with ( education, rule of law, demographic growth etc... ). You then wind up up the machine and watch it go. Just extrapolate over decades and you have your answer of which countries will do well. That seems to be about it. Anyone who...

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a threat, It is an opportunity for all of us... Read it!!!!, 15 Mar 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Easy to read, understandable without being an economist. If found it compelling. If you have an interest in figuring out were the opportunities of the 21 st century lie, read it. It is a very optimistic book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Despite all the doom and gloom there is opportunity, 6 Jan 2012
This book is a must read for everyone in international business. It makes one think beyond the current downcast headlines and see that there remains huge opportunity for businesses globally - it's about identifying where opportunity is and it's likely to be in markets that are less familiar.
Also for the politicians - food for thought as to how the world could operate and cooperate better for the benefit of all.
Thought provoking.

1.0 out of 5 stars Negative thinking is "verboten", 12 Sep 2013

I did not take to this book. The analysis of countries prospects is defined by a scoring on various metrics which Goldman Sachs has come up with ( education, rule of law, demographic growth etc... ). You then wind up up the machine and watch it go. Just extrapolate over decades and you have your answer of which countries will do well. That seems to be about it. Anyone who likes history knows that the history of humanity is one big unforcastable mess with some pretty serious reverses. A lot of unpleasant, angry, emotional people always seem to pop up to mess up the story. It never runs smoothly on the railway tracks which this book predicts. So I was very disappointed by this book. A lot of the books out there on the economy and fantastically depressing. I thought this might be a counterweight. It isn't. Best avoided.
