3.0 out of 5 stars Personal Record of life in East Africa during first have of 20th Century, 22 Oct. 2011
This review is from: Warriors and Strangers (Paperback)
'Warriors and Strangers' was a deep and intense book, while at the same time suffered from lack of structure - there was material in it for an number of separate books, especially if illustrated. Gerald was a very astute observer of people, and of the toll the colonization took on all of those involved. He had an interest in the older civilization and in their values at a time when Africa was changing, empires were disintegrating and the modern states were emerging. Not an easy read, but worth it for anyone interested in Kenya or in the history of colonialism in Africa.
