Unheard Voices is a book to challenge a church that repeatedly tries to pretend that homosexuality can be hidden away and not spoken of in 'holy' circles - this tells a story that involves real people facing up to real life and finding a response based on gospel values and the living out of the Christian life. These people don't hide behind platitudes but confront issues and grow stronger in the love of Jesus who himself heard and responded to those who had been ignored and unheard. It speaks of everyday people and needs to be heard by those who seek to minister amongst them.

I found this a really practical and helpful read. There are many churches which see themselves as 'open to everyone', but still find it difficult to know how to move from theory to 'open practice' when it comes to blessing same-sex unions. It's probably more of a plunge outside the big cities - so this a really useful contribution to the debate, and shows that we don't all have to agree about everything to get on.

Fascinating on every page. This is not a rant in favour of same sex blessings but a sensitive exercise in listening to what a very varied south London congregation feels about such unions being blessed in their midst. Not everybody reacts in the same way but they seem to manage to acknowledge differences and respect each other. Wonderful.

Jeffrey Heskins and the people in his Parish have made an invaluable contibution to the discussion on homosexuality and the church, what it means to be blessed and the ideals of marriage. Whether you are gay or straight, in or out of the church, this book will make you think. It's easy to read and listens to the voices of ordinary people.
St Luke's in Charlton, SE London has for more than 20 years offered a service of blessing to gay and lesbian couples. This book tells the story of how that has been understood both by the people receiving the blessing and members of the church. It is well written and often moving.
