1.0 out of 5 stars author scores HUGE own goal with this book.....
can anyone spot the basic primary school mistake that the whole premise of this book is based on ? Give it a go and have a laugh Only 4 pages in and I was laughing out loud.... utter rubbish by a very desperate person who secretly knows the game is up. The proof will be in the pudding. (REAL NAME)
Powell updates the information from Merchants of Doubt: How a Handful of Scientists Obscured the Truth on Issues from Tobacco Smoke to Global Warming by exposing the methods used by the Denialist Industry, funded by big corporations and the oil industry, in order to confuse and mislead the American public about the reality and nature of climate change.

Its thematic chapters show how initially Climate Change science until the Carter Presidency was non controversial. But then during Reagan years, corporate power, starting with the tobacco lobby, then SDI, and then CFCs, acid rain, pesticides and climate change set out to confuse the American public. And they have largely succeeded.

Fostering a fear of state intervention, and using oil sponsored think tanks and "bought scientists", it has played upon the media to attack science itself. His chapter on the anatomy of denialism shows the fears upon which denialism preys. His analysis of "Climate Gate" shows that the rumour and innuendo driven basis of the claims, but this could have been stronger. It also documents the worrying growing extremism of attacks, where scientists are beginning to receive death threats.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good reference of the climate change deniers, 29 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Inquisition of Climate Science (Paperback)
Well researched and comes with a very useful bibliography.
It does come as quite an eye opener, how some institutions work, to muddy the water of genuine climate science.

1.0 out of 5 stars author scores HUGE own goal with this book....., 23 Jun. 2013
can anyone spot the basic primary school mistake that the whole premise of this book is based on ? Give it a go and have a laugh Only 4 pages in and I was laughing out loud.... utter rubbish by a very desperate person who secretly knows the game is up. The proof will be in the pudding. As the "mainstream" science community embarrassingly realises that the pseudo-science of "climate" science was a poison chalice , the desperate few cling on. This book was recommended by the cartoonist Cook who pretends he is an expert on climate... says it all.. AVOID.
