5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening and enjoyable, 22 April 2002

Over the past few years I have become a great fan of the translations of Burton Watson. This one is of a historical work covering events in the spring and autumn period prior to that of the warring states. As with his master work the translation of Qin SIma's Historical records Prof. watson presnets an enjoyable, informative and intellectually stimulating text. For the student of Confucianism or the person with just general interest in chinesse history this one is a must have. My only criticism is that this is only a translation of selected parts of the work and it was so enjoyable I wish the author had translated much more of it.
