5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for undergrads and A-level, 13 Jun. 2013

This review is from: Issues, Debates and Approaches in Psychology (Palgrave Insights in Psychology series) (Paperback)
Currently an undergraduate studying Psychology.

This book is relevant to a lot of my modules, in the sense that it provides a very useful insight into the key assumptions throughout all of Psychology.

In terms of the content, it provides a lot of information in a very readable way, which makes it useful for any Psychology student. It certainly a book that gets you thinking about potential issues to consider for future coursework. The additional benefit is that is is quiet a short book (for Psychology texts) so you are likely to get through it a lot quicker than most others.

It can sometimes be difficult to know exactly how to write and essay for Psychology, and it it sometimes difficult for lecturers to convey this as instructions. The way this book is written demonstrates a very good example of how to write for Psychology, which is rare to come by. It has given me a better understanding of how to approach essays ect. Simply put, I think you get a lot more out of this book than just what is written.

For A-level/ IB/ sixth form students, this book is very accessible. I would recommend it for several reasons. First; it will give you the opportunity to show off in exams. Second; It will prepare you for the differences in Psychology at degree level (compared to say A-level). Finally; It will be a good thing to read/ talk about in your personal statement/ interviews to show your awareness of the field. It achieves this a lot better than any book I saw, when I was in your position.

Having purchased this as summer reading before embarking on a Psychology degree, it gave fantastic coverage and a thorough overview of the basics of the subject. Topical and up-to-date, you won't be disappointed with the level of detail, but will also marvel at its accessibility to students (or non-students!) of all ages and ability, regardless of your understanding of Psychology.

It readily presents key facts, ideas and theories in depth, but with clear and concise summaries at the end of each topic, which are perfect for self-testing and quick reading (but you will happily read it cover to cover anyway)

A great starting point/revision tool and a must for any budding Psychologist.

I bought this at the request of a relative. She has been very happy with it. It offers a good over-arching grounding and introduction, but is also an 'entertaining' read (her words not mine)
