I have far too many cook books and frankly don't need another - but this one has so far proved inspirational. I've made the Pasta and Courgettes with a Pistachio and Basil sauce (twice - it's delish) and the Rice and Chickpea salad, the Pasta with Broccoli and the Bucatini with Pancetta. It is true, as a previous reviewer has pointed out, that some of the instructions are misleading...for instance the courgette recipe specifies Farfalle and then later mentions making your own tagliatelle (for the avoidance of doubt, it's tagliatelle you need...)so I can't give the book 5 stars. You probably need to be a fairly confident cook and not totally rely on the instructions. But for providing new ideas, recipes I can try with ingredients I've either got in the cupboard or can find easily, and beautiful tasting food, I'd recommend this book. Next one to try...Torta di Polenta.

This is a lovely looking book with wonderful pictures and a really appealing collection of recipes. But the recipes have not been checked! I have cooked two of the recipes twice each and they are incorrect!
Baci di Dama biscuits are lovely but, after you've put 1-2 tbsp of the sugar in the mix, what do you do with the rest of the 120g? I looked up other Baci di Dama recipes online and found that you roll the biscuits in it just before baking.
Pomodori Ripieno do Riso calls for 'Italian rice, preferably Vialone Nano'. I couldn't get that so I used Arborio, usually described as a practical alternative to Vialone. After following the recipe to the letter, the rice was not cooked. And I don't mean it was al dente. I mean that it was hard! And it's not my oven temperature, that was checked with an oven thermometer.
We have become used to clear recipes which, if you follow the instructions, work well. Delia is the queen of this, but there are many other cooks who also offer foolproof instructions.
This is potentially a lovely book and I will try more of the recipes, but the sloppy lack of attention to detail is most disappointing.

I really recommend this book - on the one hand it gives you definitive recipes for all the classics eg spaghetti carbonara, tomato & mozarella salad, caponata etc but once you've mastered those you can move on to making your own ravioli pasta or one of the puddings like spicy Sienna cake. It's well laid out and easy to read - uncomplicated and unpretentious and it looks good too.

Perhaps this is just not Anna del Conte's finest hour but having seen her referenced by Nigella Lawson many times, I had high expectations of both the prose and the recipes. It is fine, but not destined to be a favourite cookery book.

This book is a delight for all those who wish for great Italian food. The book describes how to cook and enjoy real Italian food without any of the awful influences that the USA has imposed on Italian food.

I totally agree with Delian and Nigella. She is one of the best Italian cookery writers. I will never buy ready made pasta again.

Classic collection of Italian recipes. Risotto section is one of the best I've seen in any book. Great flavours made with simple ingredients.
