This is an excellent book if ur a 3ds Max 4 beginner - It tells u how to make objects and animate as with most Max books - It goes into things like Max camera effects, weather effects, and other useful things like lighting, editing meshes and rendering. This is one of the best Max books for beginners - Its very well illustrated, easily explained and it helped me get through the first year of my BA Animation course at university. great value for money.

If you're new to MAX, it can be a daunting piece of software to work through on your own. This book takes you through the basics and quickly builds your confidence. By the end, you should be more than ready for more complex tasks. An excellent, well written book.

This book takes you right in to handling 3ds Max animation programme, with ease and simplicity. Quite how the author has broken down this programme into such simplistic easys to understand format , and yet tap into the heart of the programme covering practically everything Max has to offer, is amazing. A marvellous inspirational book - the must have companion for anyone wanting to learn Max.

I must admit, having a keen interest of learning the art of 3D Animation, this book being much cheaper than most on the market should of been a good buy. Wrong.
I haven't read all of this book, but so far it is all examples, and not enough teaching. It does not bother to 'fill you in' on most technical terms used in the pages, and so you (at least I was) was left searching the Help Files of 3Ds MAX in the hopes of fully understanding what it says.
The beginning of the book (of which I am quite familiar with) is babble. It explains how to install the program, authors advice, and for want of a better term, the aurtors biography. Overall, not a very good buy, save your money for a better book, or as I should of done, the pub.

I’m afraid I found this book a bit uninspiring and dull. I have read through the book a couple of times now and nothing has really sunk in. Having used Max V1 professionally a couple years ago this book has done nothing to update my knowledge or help me to remember what I once knew.
I do not consider this a failing with the book as I understand that it is a guide and not a tutorial based book. I prefer to learn by being spoon fed and then experimenting with what I have just learned. This book just doesn’t do that. Due to this I will not buy any of the books in this range again.
If you, like me, prefer to learn through a tutorial based system this is not the book for you, however for those of you who can read a book and then ‘do’ will find it very good.
