4.0 out of 5 stars Good size, useful contents., 27 Sep 2013

Blackstone Press are a long established publisher of legal textbooks; and a well known series of police 'handbooks'.

The small size of this title immediately makes it highly suitable for carrying on the person, sounds obvious but
I can confirm its no trouble at all to put in a (large) pocket on a jacket etc...

The series itself has a niche audience, and, this title is all the more specialist. However it seems to deal with
common and less common scenarios at depth; with anything like this you have to mainly look to the body endorsing it to
decide the likelihood of the contents being correct.

The size of this book is great - it would probably fit in a jacket pocket quite easily. It is useful in that it contains extracts of all the relevant statutes and notes on how they might be used/interpreted in practice. There is a useful (and currently relevant) chapter on terrorism at the back, although this is not what the majority of the book is expressly about. Although the subject is relatively dry, the book contains introductions to each section/topic and a great deal of narrative/cultural context, so it is easy to read even for those who are not involved in security on a daily/vocational basis.

I've found all the Blackstone's publications that I've read to be concise and yet comprehensive at the same time. They contain everything you need to know at short notice - ie on duty, without referring to the internet, and its size allows you to keep it close to hand. The information it contains is accurate and up to date and can be trusted. Whilst this particular book is aimed at a niche market, there are other books in the series which I'd also recommend to security/law enforcement professionals.

Okay, this is very specific item, aimed at a niche market. I have owned other legal and police aimed publications and I think Blackstones is up there with the best of the publishing houses that tackle law books.

This handbook provides easily digestable information that is laid out very neatly and has a very handy 'points to prove' section when dealing with offences.

All told, a very handy book for police officers, UKBA officers, customs and excise employees and anyone working security at border control or any port.

The format is neatly sized to fit in a kit bag or a (fairly sizable) pocket and can be carried at all times whilst on duty.

A very well written book that offers good info on the current UK standpoint concerning border and ports threats.

Recommended.
