4.0 out of 5 stars An extensive overview of Music and Emotion, 8 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Handbook of Music and Emotion: Theory, Research, Applications (Paperback)
(Still reading this book after an initial "skimming"). I am reading this book as a musician (and honours graduate) with an interest in the subject of music and emotion. It covers all aspects of theory, research and application in an intellectual manner at a level you would expect from Oxford University Press, which consequently can be demanding to read and difficult to understand at times. Too much time is spent on justification for my liking, especially on the various methods of measurement and self report. Maybe that's because this aspect of the studies is not of great interest to me? Overall it's a very interesting book with a vast number of contributors who are all experts in their own right. Between them, they provide a comprehensive coverage of a broad ranging subject. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject. I will use the information provided in this book to further my reading in more specific areas of the subject as I continue to study the effects of music on the player and the listener.
