5.0 out of 5 stars Just Brilliant, 21 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Don Quixote de la Mancha (Oxford World's Classics) (Paperback)
Terry Gilliam's failed attempt to make a film version of Don Quixote made me want to read it. This translation is really good. I've started others and found them really flat - this one is bold, rich and I can imagine Gilliam's crumbly, eccentric vision readily. It was a real surprise to find it was translated in the mid 1700's. Readable, not as dense as Shakespeare, and laugh out loud funny in places. Brilliant.

4.0 out of 5 stars a novel covering very modern topics, 6 Aug. 2001
By A Customer
although published in 1605 many of the topics covered are very recognisable to todays society ; stalking , censorship , failure of the care in the community programme and greed .
