5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended...
One of the best anthologies available out there. The coverage is extensive and far-reaching. It is very accessible and introduces the main ideas in a plain and jargon-free language. It is an excellent source for both students and anyone interested in philosophy and history of political thought. Highly recommended.

This review is from: Political Thinkers: From Socrates to the Present (Paperback)
I bought this book as a supplement to the main textbook for a course in political philosophy.

To be honest I did not expect it to be such a help!

If you are studying political philosophy, ignore the cost and buy this book even if it is not the assigned textbook.

We have been using this book for some semesters for an introduction to political philosophy. For first year students the essays are way too advanced. The brief summary of works and concepts at the beginning of every chapter is too succint, whilst the essays that follow are highly idiosyncratic and do not provide a consistent let alone accessible overview of any of the philosophers covered. This then is a book for highly advanced students in political philosophy (Master level) or for professors who after years of covering the same philosophers, need a fresh take on any of these thinkers.
