4.0 out of 5 stars IB Course Companion 20th century world history
This is an excellent addition to the IB history teacher's armoury. The first part of the book has a lot of information on the Source Papers for the new exam syllabus from May 2010 onwards. Other chapters explore IB themes and provide useful ideas on a number of the specified wars, such as the Falklands, as well as old favourites.

2.0 out of 5 stars IB STUDENT
The book has some good sections but is not well organised and it does not cover the material in sufficient depth for the IB examination. If you buy it you will certainly need other books to supplement its content.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an outstanding piece of work!, 19 Jan. 2011
By
Stu Dent (Colchester, England) - See all my reviews
This 20th Century history course-companion for the International Baccalaureate (IB) is an outstanding publicationand supports the preparation of students for both Papers 1 and 2. Each chapter has a common format that includes: background information for the topic; well-founded factual information; analysis of key events; case-studies; profiles of key actors; role plays and other activities; extracts from relevant historical documents; link to Theory of Knowledge (TOK; source analysis; and links to examination questions. The content is well written and has been carefully presented by the author of each chapter who, incidentally, is not only an experienced specialist teacher in an International School and an authority on their topic, but is also an IB examiner. Without doubt, this course-companion is easy to use and is accessible to teachers and students. It provides readers with issues to reflect upon as they find their way through each chapter. Students will certainly appreciate the manner in which key ideas, events and high profile actors are treated in order to help develop understanding of the nine major themes within the book. I have been searching for a text of this nature and quality for at least 40 years. Students and teachers will have cause to thank the authors for providing them with such an intellectually rigorous, informative and well presented volume.

2.0 out of 5 stars IB history textbook, 30 Aug. 2010
I found the content useful in general as a resource for my IA, but I would never use it to study from for the exam, as the topics are disorganised and in order to study a whole topic, you need to keep going back and forth through chapters. I guess its just because of the modular structure of the IB history syllabus, but I just find this generally not great.
