3.0 out of 5 stars the Bible text print is fine but struggling a bit to read annotations
Very helpful, the Bible text print is fine but struggling a bit to read annotations. The maps are really good, also the book introductions, and there is lots of interesting background info. as well as many cross references to the Bible verses. Good for the price. I like the term 'Hebrew Bible', more accurate than 'Old Testament.'

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, 7 Mar 2011

Forget the collins buy this and you will be on target for understanding the bible at Oxford detail level. The book itself is built very well indeed and large enough to be an easy read. The notes are modern and up to date. I am a bible student and have several bibles, this one is one of my favorites. Very solid will last a long time. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant and helpful version of the Bible, 16 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have just completed ( after five years and much testing spiritually ) the Methodist Faith and Worship course, and have my accreditation service on 3rd. February. I was invited to choose a Bible to celebrate this achievement and was recommended the New RSV, but wanted a good study Bible as well. Having read several reviews on Amazon, this seemed to be the most popular. It lives up to the reviews and more. I would certainly suggest it to anyone else wanting to study the Bible in depth, or just wanting a really helpful version of the Bible to steer them through their spiritual journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars The New Oxford Annotated Bible, 7 Mar 2012
Anyone running a Bible class would find this Bible to be of great help. I think the five star rating I have given is well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Oxford Annotated Bible, 13 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a mainstream annotated NRSV bible with excellent notes and essays. Though the critical line taken in this publication is fairly moderate, some more conservative evangelicals might find some of the views taken unacceptable, and for them there are other options. I have also got a copy of the Harper Collins study bible. That is equally good, in my view.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exxcellent, 23 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
NRSV is a reasonable modern translation though perhaps not the best being tied as it is to the KJV. This edition has a simple approach to its annotations giving separately short comments on the translation where these are problematical and longer items to assist with background. The approach is to treat the work as a work of ancient literature and to deal with it in no different manner from say Homer or whomever. There is a pleasing absence of any religion in the annotations. If the reader wishes to understand in a realistic, practical manner what the bible is as opposed to what assorted contending religionists believe it to be or wish it to be then this edition is ideal. Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect study bible, 4 Nov 2010
This bible is absolutely complete. Since it was just published in 2009 it has the benefit of the latest research. Each page has annotation. There are special sections with background information explaining the world history at the time of the writing of each book. Maps of Jerusalem and the middle east both ancient and modern are included.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent annotated Bible for serious study, 8 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Like many other Oxford titles, such as the Oxford Bible Commentary, this is an indispensable resource for serious biblical and theological study. Not only the individual books have introductions and chapter/verse commentaries but there are also very useful essays on the books that may not be the focus of one's particular studies that go a long way to form a high-level but rounded knowledge of those books. This is a substantial and serious reference that will serve any student well for many years; my only complaint is that there isn't (as of writing) a Kindle version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Study Bible, 15 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A must-have study bible. If you are a student of scripture, this has to be on your shelf. Comprehensive and insightful. Full of articles from a host of scholars, and also includes the wonderful Oxford maps. The scholarship is liberal and mainstream. Stands in comparison with the more conservative ESV Study Bible, which is also an excellent product.

I was very pleased with the quality and notes for the bible passages. Plenty of admiring glances from the congregation and the price was excellent
