5.0 out of 5 stars Save it for a stormy night, 14 April 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Amphigorey Also (Paperback)
The late, great Edward Gorey must have lived in a little world of his own. Normally I find it a frustrating experience trying to make sense of something that makes no attempt to help do so, but so much of this book flies in the face of the very idea of making sense (You just have to look at a frame or two of 'The Prune People') that you can quite happily give up the whole idea and just enjoy the other-worldly weirdness of it. The 'Utter Zoo' segment qualifies this book for a place on the shelf next to Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear; as for the rest of it, to get the full effect save it for a stormy night.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surreal and Stupendous!, 30 Jun 2009

This review is from: Amphigorey Also (Paperback)
This is a book to adore - unfortunately it's also one of those books that some people will simply not understand at all.

Some of the stories will make you laugh out loud, and some of them will make you very puzzled! The art is simply gorgeous, and it'll feed your surreality requirements for at least a month...
