5.0 out of 5 stars A child's view of Los Angeles riots.
This small children's book is focused on the riots in Los Angeles, a child's view of them, and how people of different backgrounds can come together. It is a great book that can lead a child into a discussion with an adult about riots, violence, mob psychology, and how all of those factors can effect children. 1.0 out of 5 stars dark and scary
I was horrified to read this book to my children. For the vast majority, this book is unnecessarily scary and negative. It may have a "redeeming message" and perhaps would be useful in a situation where a child might really face these horrors. BUt the average family would be better off avoiding this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thouht provoking, 24 Feb. 1998

Eve Bunting allows the reader to experience the hatred and the violence of the L.A riots without having to be physically there. The story line is enriched with the wonderous works of illustrator David Diaz. Buntings ending may be a little idealistic with friendship beginning with cats..but why not?

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent illustrations, 29 Oct. 1998

The collages in this book are very creative. It's interesting to see what the illustrator uses to create the backgrounds. The pictures and the story work very well together. The story has a moral at the ending that makes this book worth reading.

Sometimes the violence was scary, but it was a real good story. The drawings were awesome!
