I recommend this collection to anyone who wants to become acquainted with Lord Dunsany's writings. It seems to be really representative, containing several of his typical dreamy fantasy tales, elegiac and melodic in tone (which I like most), as well as other, more grotesque or ironic stories.

A brilliant collection of tales, well-written in an unforgettable style. From the mythology of Pegana, whose bright (and, at times, dark) imaginative tones are a superbe example of fantasy fiction, to the later tales, Dunsany appears as a revelation. It is also a good collection to read associated to others, such as the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, Tolkien and, later, Jack Vance, representing an important link between different literary genres of fiction, such as horror, sci-fi, fantasy and weird fiction. A book that each real fantasy reader ought to read.
