I bought this set of Penguin postcards as a gift for a writer friend of mine - a lover of both books and pretty stationery. She was massively pleased with the gift and we whiled away some time over coffee sifting through the set.

Each card is different, unlike most sets of cards where you get multiples of a set number of designs. You get a pleasing variety of designs, the majority being of the classic Penguin style, but also covering a few Puffin covers, and a good selection from the 60s, where the firm broke into more abstract designs.

Good value for money even at the RRP.

Bought as a gift for a fan of design - he loved it! Should have bought two - one to keep, one to share - and may yet do so!

With a bit of time and effort a great poster can be created using a selection of these cards. Amazing range of covers which show Penguin covers as the very important examples of design history they are.

A great product for those who still like to write post cards, or design lovers who simply want to keep the collection in order to admire the history of the design of Penguin book covers - my recommendation would be to buy two sets - one to keep and one to send!

These postcards come packaged in a lovely box which can be used after the postcards have been all used up (this will take some time). They are wonderfully original and are include wide range of penguin books. They are the normal A5 size and made of wonderfully strong card. They make a great gift or for personal use.

This box of 100 postcards illustrating a range of Penguin Books paperback covers from the late 1930's up to the 1970's (will a further box of more recent covers appear?) is terrific and effectively offers a museum of design for your own home! The high standards of work maintained by the company and the designers it employed throughout are impressive. It is good to see that, for the most part, the individual designers are identified although the person who devised the original characteristic horizontal white and orange division, the first Production Manager, Edward Young, is not credited as far as I can tell. However later designers and illustrators are named, such as Jan Tschichold, Stephen Russ, Germano Facetti, Romek Marber, Denise York, Alan Spain and Alan Aldridge.

Highly recommended. But which of these great postcards will you ever want to part with?
