This was the first of Tim Robinson's books that I read and I've since bought Connemara: Listening to the Wind as I was impressed by this. At times it is a bit of a struggle; the second chapter's geological lingo went WAY over my head and the amount of dates and characters described can be hard to follow. But overall it is well worth reading on for the beautiful writing style and the obvious appreciation of such a fantastic area. Anyone who has been to Connemara will have their visit improved for reading this book.

This book, a companion to Connemara: Listening to the Wind, is a magnificent celebration of one of Europe's most remote and significant landscapes. The book encompasses detailed notes on the history and natural topography of the region as well as an exploration of the lives of many of the people who have inhabited this landscape over the centuries. Robinson's sometimes bleak but always affirming vision is characterised by his meticulous understanding of the mid-west of Ireland, the result of over 35 years of engagement with every aspect of Connemara's past and present. This trilogy, when completed, will undoubtedly achieve classic status.

my love of connemara has grown over the years.the awsome beauty of the countryside, the stories, the sights, the characters, the skies and the coast. However this publication gives a multy demensional view that is so detailed and descriptive.I have purchased copies of the book for all the family to share this treasure.
Well done TIM ROBINSON
