This review is from: In the Heart of the Amazon Forest (Penguin Great Journeys) (Mass Market Paperback)
A fascinating insight into life in central Brazil at about the turn of the century.
This man was a pioneer botanist and naturlist. He was responsible for many previously unknown specimens shipped by dug-out canoe from his home in the jungle and then trans-shipped to the trans-atlantic steamer on route to Kew and the British Museum.
His writing style is factual and unembelished, and even his moments of crisis fail to ruffle his feathers.
A genuine pioneer demanding the respect of all who have ever followed.
