great read,
By a reader (south London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: If I Were You (Paperback)
This is a great read, funny, fast-moving and thought provoking. It's the story of two best friends, Natasha and Sophie. Natasha is traditionally the "clever one", Sophie the "pretty one". Now in their thirties, neither is entirely happy with her life. Natasha has a great job, an amazing flat and a designer wardrobe but she's lonely and Sophie has a gorgeous boyfriend but a dead-end job and lives in a rented hovel. It really struck chords with me, I've always been jealous of my friends' lives, but of course you can't admit to such nasty feelings! But as this book shows the grass isn't always greener. It has loads of really funny scenes and the characters are so well-drawn you feel as if you know them. Well done, Julia and thanks for the laughs!

this is the first tiem I have read a book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it - inface I have just bought love trainer! The characters and things that happen are so true to life - although I really dont know how sophie could go with Olly - sounded like a right slopball! I would definitely recommend this book to everyone - have lent to a friend of mine and she is loving the read too - will let you know what the love trainer is like!

A cleverly written, easy to read, humorous girly book!! I loved the insights into the two main characters and really felt I was traveling along with their trials and tribulations! Definitely recommending to others!

This is the first Julia Llewellyn that I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. More thought-provoking and meatier/realistic than I expected it to be too.

really loved it,
By Sally W (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: If I Were You (Paperback)
I read the last book by this writer and thought it was hilarious and this one is even better - so funny and so true about people and their emotions and the way we live our lives today. Some hilarious characters - loved the stingy Australian flatmate - lots of laughs and a few tears. Looking forward to the next one now

Something Borrowed....,
By Butterfly "Emma" (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: If I Were You (Paperback)
Firstly, I have to point out that in this book there is an almost identical episode to that in Emily Giffin's Something Borrowed (written two years before If I Were You) - the scene where Girl A goes to Girl B's flat and realises her ex-boyfriend is now sleeping with her friend by spotting the man's inscribed watch... mmm, very spooky...!!!! Apart from that, I did quite enjoy this book. It took a while to get going but the characters were fun, albeit a bit immature for 30 something women. Andy seemed a bit of a drip, being as he was described as super gorgeous it was very hard to imagine him that way. The Natasha storyline was good with the infatuation of the sleazy writer and the Olly and Sophie love scenes made me cringe! I thought the book was padded out a bit with Sophie's moms affairs. I did enjoy the book but think the author's other novels The Model Wife and Amy's Honeymoon are far better.
