5.0 out of 5 stars Clever drawings for the animal mad toddler, 9 Nov 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Find Me a Tiger (Picture Puffin) (Paperback)
From the same author as the Hairy Maclary books. We discovered these when visiting relatives in NZ and our daughter now demands regular doses before bed.
Find Me a Tiger is made up of a series of wonderful drawings of animals, birds, insects and fish merged into their habitats, excellent for budding animal spotters, and finishing with Slinky Malinki merged into his natural habitat, the chair on the porch.
If you have a toddler and need something you can read again and again without getting bored, then start exploring Lynley Dodd.

"Find Me A Tiger," beautifully illustrated and told, as always by Lynley Dodd, is a more subtle story, a "finding out about things" story with that usual little twist or addition towards the end. My reviews will always be the same about Lynley Dodd's works and I won't tell you too much about her stories because it will spoil their surprises. Excellent for Grandmas, Grandads, mums, dads etc. to read to the children of their family or to help a child learn to read. I read them for the fun and laughter they bring and for the inspiring illustrations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning and great for developing visual discrimination., 3 April 2010

Really liked this book. Good for a toddler. Simple language, with beautiful illustrations - theme is camoflage - you can gradually pick them out in their natural habitat. However, cleverly, there's a mix - some the child might have to be helped with dependent on age, others they'll spot immediately. So its also good for developing attention.

It does not have the wit and bonhomie of "Hairy McClary" and his pals, by the same author, but isn't supposed to. Its a bedtime book, or one for when you're going to get the paints out perhaps if you've got an arty child.

If you haven't tried the Hairy McClary books yet, urge you to give them a whirl. I was not convinced at all my son would like them, but a librarian recommended "Hairy McClary from Donaldson's Dairy" and the secret is you've got to find voices for all his different mates! Its great, in the same class as the Gruffalo.

Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for visual discrimination, 18 Mar 2004
This review is from: Find Me a Tiger (Picture Puffin) (Paperback)
This book encourages early years children to focus intently on the pictures and allows them to discern each item with care. They are thrilled when they can show another child, or adult, where the animal in question is located.

As a huge Hairy McClary fan I thought this would be a good buy for my grand-daughter. I was right. She loves finding the animals. I can't wait to read it with her.

Lynley Dodd keeps on coming up with winners. There are amusing rhyming couplets matched with deceptively simple pictures with animals hidden in them.
