5.0 out of 5 stars Literal translations best
I profoundly disagree with the other reviewer. Translations which try to compete with the poet are always embarrassing. What one needs in bilingual editions is a good literal translation, as here, so that one can more effectively engage with the original poetry in French

Larforgue is a brilliant poet with an incredible use of the sound and music in language, if one understands French at all one will hear the symphonies of images he constructs. Unfortunately this Penguin Classic is not so 'classic' at all. The translations wonderfully conveys his imagery, but is not witness to the level of invention in language. The English text is squashed in at the bottom of the page paying no attention to the graphic structure of the poem. This is done to cover up its failings, which are to be found line for line. A very unsatisfactory attempt.
