5.0 out of 5 stars The roots of human creativity and its relation to nature.
THE ACT OF CREATION has attracted a cult following since its original 1964 publication. It set the stage for much of the "New Age" literature of the following decades.

Koestler draws analogies between human creativity and evolution in nature, seeing them as two different aspects of a single process.

I have mixed feelings. I once owned a copy years ago, but this second-hand copy is stained and I am reluctant to open and use it.

THE ACT OF CREATION has attracted a cult following since its original 1964 publication. It set the stage for much of the "New Age" literature of the following decades.

Koestler draws analogies between human creativity and evolution in nature, seeing them as two different aspects of a single process.

Koestler's writing is eminently readable and still highly topical three decades later.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most authoratative text on creative processes I know., 18 Jun. 1998

This review is from: The Act of Creation (Arkana) (Paperback)
The book looks at creativity from a broader perspective than what is generally portrayed in society. It looks at the creativity involved in sciences, humour and of course the arts, showing that the three types are inextricably linked, and that the creative process for genius in all areas follow incredible parallels. His theory on bisociative deductions is marvellous. One of my favourite books.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing insight into the creative process, 22 Mar. 2011

This review is from: The Act of Creation (Arkana) (Paperback)
There are many praises that this book definitely deserves. But first and foremost, it is incredibly inspiring and thought-provoking. Being given few examples of all-time geniuses such as Newton, Kepler or Darwin, we are being shown how the ideas are born, how they are honed and finally, how they are expressed. In all his factuality, Koestler remains overtly optimistic and state that we are all capable of creation.

A fascinating read for the person who steps back and wonders - it gives glimpses and answers through an integrated body of research and a graceful and insightful fireside chat about it all. One of my all time favourite books. I can hardly wait to read it again!
