One of the very best books about the English language - over the years I've given it to lots of people who speak English really well but who have a different first language. Fascinating, informative, very readable.

There is nothing to dislike about Bill Bryson books, they are always highly entertaining, full of dry humour, and interesting factual information. I look forward to hearing that he has written a new book, and I shall certainly be looking out for it to add to my collection..

Bill Bryson has that happy knack of being able to entertain and educate at the same time.
'Bravo' I say - with French undertones!

Yet another eminently readable book from Bill Bryson. He makes the study of the origins of the English language fascinating and fun. As usual he writes in a witty way that keeps the reader interested from the first to the last page. I thoroughly recommend all of his books.
