5.0 out of 5 stars Thorough, 22 Feb 2011
This review is from: Solaris Internals: Solaris 10 and Open Solaris Kernel Architecture (Hardcover)
This really does give you an excellent comprehensive introduction to the internal workings of Solaris.

However I suspect most readers approaching this subject may require some background. I can recommend a very old book (1983, but later versions are available cannot comment on these!), but still, a superb introduction that would form an ideal basis before approaching this "heavyweight". The book is Operating Systems by Harvey M Deitel. Available used for a few bucks.

This is a Solid book. Period.

5.0 out of 5 stars RIP Solaris, 17 Aug 2011
This review is from: Solaris Internals: Solaris 10 and Open Solaris Kernel Architecture (Hardcover)
Its only when you look at the competition that you realise just how superior Solaris was for long time i.e 2.4 onwards.

Its a great shame that Sun were bought by Oracle

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reference, 27 Mar 2011
This review is from: Solaris Internals: Solaris 10 and Open Solaris Kernel Architecture (Hardcover)
Great book, very well written. If you're serious about Solaris, then this title is an absolute must. Not for the beginner, though.
