5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent buy for first year undergraduates, 25 Nov. 1999

This review is from: Introductory Semiconductor Device Physics (Paperback)
I know of some people who believe that a healthy dose of quantum mechanics before breakfast has the same beneficial effects as a cold shower "You may not like it but its good for you". In the eyes of most first year undergraduates, quantum mechanics ranks with the four horseman of the apocalypse and it doesn't even rate a decent horse although it does boast a cat. Greg Parker's book is eminently readable, the quantum mechanics is introduced in easily digestible chunks and backed with well written explanations and lots of examples. It manages to balance gravitas with readability. This book is an excellent buy for first year undergraduates and provides the background for study at a higher level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excetional, 8 Oct. 2012

The book is really well balanced and very readable according to the subject in hand. I tried several books but i loose track but here the author did a great job by keeping it simple and in one dimensional and let the reader do spread his/her own wings to go forward till what i have found. I will suggest if you are looking for an easy to understand and to follow up from basics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simplifying Semiconductors, 26 Jan. 2014

As a first year undergraduate electronic engineering semiconductors made no sense, a notoriously difficult subject as expected. Reading Greg Parker's book back to back like a novel made me feel very confident in regards to the syllabus. A combination of his linear approach, humour and selectivity of content make it a relatively easy read. While this is not strictly a textbook, after quickly reading through the first few chapters (up to p-n junctions) one can use it as a quick reference source. Would definitely recommend to anyone beginning to study semiconductors or anyone interested in the topic and wanting an excellent introduction.
