4.0 out of 5 stars nicely written, a good book to quickly refresh your memory, 23 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Fundamentals of Nuclear Reactor Physics (Hardcover)
Compare to other books that i have this one shines by its different font size!! maybe it is just the paper but it feels "airer" than others. It also seem to be mode focused when explaining material, maybe at the cost of not detailing every single mathematical wizardry (which when you are a student is not a good think really).

to me one of the better "go-to-book" i own.

5.0 out of 5 stars The essentials - in an analytical way, 19 Dec 2009
This review is from: Fundamentals of Nuclear Reactor Physics (Hardcover)
This book is one of the the best physics books I ever read! The author focusses on the basic and main essentails of nuclear reactor physics. He guides the reader from the basics of nuclear physics like radiation and absorption through carefully selected topics as cross-sections, four-factor formula, neutron physics, temperature and power coefficents to the long-term behavior of the reactor core. While reading this book from the beginning to the very end, the reader is able to understand nuclear reactor physics in its fundamentals. All calculations are concise and consistent and can be retraced by the reader. The book provides an analytical approach and is very good to WORK with it.

However, the book is not that good as a reference book, i.e. to consult it for special ad hoc questions.
In later chapters, the author very often cross-references to earlier chapters in order to carry out his present proof. Some formulas have typos, which might be a bit taxing, but also trains analytical skills ;-).

In all I can highly recommend this book as an educational book that invite to engage in active learning.
