This review is from: The Midland Valley of Scotland (British Regional Geology) (Paperback)
A highly detailed and comprehensive survey of the geology of the Central Belt of Scotland. This book would be invaluable to any student of geology, and is of particular interest to those living/working in the area. Much light is thrown on how the particular geology of this region, rich in coal and iron, led to it becoming the beating heart of Scotland's Industrial Revolution.

As an amateur geologist, and one who is relatively new to his subject, I did find this book hard going at first, sprinkled as it is with a plethora of technical geological terminology. This gave a learning curve which was not so much steep as near-vertical! However, armed with a good glossary, I gradually began to make sense of the text and benefitted enormously in so doing.

Highly recommended.
