Dated, sexist, disappointing
on 14 February 2016
I didn't know the story and at first found it very interesting and exciting. However (and here comes a very big reservation), at the very last moment there's a twist, and suddenly I was left with an extremely nasty taste in my mouth.
Forsyth gives an interesting insight into 1960's Germany's reluctance to deal head-on with its Nazi past but, in the end, a chance to make a meaningful comment is lost, as the story ends up just another boys' own yarn. (I was willing to put up with the girlfriend being a stripper, but by the end all good-will was gone.) A very dated, disappointing read.
