This is the story seen through a child's eyes at a time of social revolution in Spain. The film may be quite slow and not dramatic enough for some people who are looking for an all-action type film about the civil war (like Ken Loach's Land & Freedom).
What this film brings is the eve of the revolution, the changes in the schooling, the communalism, the education of the Spanish people whereby they were reading the likes of the Russian anarchist Kropotkin's book - 'The Conquest of Bread'. What this film shows is how the mindset of the Spanish people was developing into dramatic social change in the 30 years prior to 1936.
