5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful read
I'm not a great reader, but this novel kept me riveted. All I wanted to do was sit and read it, to find out what was going to happen to the characters next, to see the story unwind and find out more about this rich picture of modern Indian life interwoven with its literary history. A fantastic achievement!

2.0 out of 5 stars state of book
dust cover torn and dirty on front and back. The price is coherent with the state of the book but the delivery fee make this purchase a little too pricey for what it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars superb story and beautifully written, 9 Jun. 2013

page turning story. Appreciation/understanding of Hinduism would help take you through the parts of the book which are theological in nature but even if this isn't your thing, the rest of the gripping story and fabulous characters will lead you through, holding your attention until the last page

4.0 out of 5 stars Ángel Gurría-Quintana, The Financial Times, 27 Jun. 2011
This review is from: Leela's Book (Hardcover)
'This is a bold and delightful novel, executed with energy and flair.... Albinia has pulled off the remarkable trick of melding a story about modern family ties with a timeless tale about gods and avatars... For a novel so thick in plot, and so lush with details of Indian life, it reads effortlessly. The result is magnificent.'
