A little disappointed
on 30 March 2011
For the first time, I was somewhat disappointed by one of Donna Leon's Brunetti novels. I'm not good at remembering titles, and when I read the blurb, it seemed familiar. It was, but not because I had read it before; the basic theme was so similar to one of her recent books that it was a few chapters before I realised that I really was reading a new book, and not one I'd already read. Is Brunetti getting tired? Or is the writer? It was not just the insistence on the oppressive heat of a Venetian summer, but a general listlessness throughout, and a feeling of being left with much unfinished at the end.
I look forward to the next book, with a Donna Leon back on her usual dazzling form!
