This lady loved her history as well as her food. A resonably easy read that has me saying Oh I didn't know that regularly!

She knows whereof she speaks, and she speaks with such eloquence. A magnificent read. A wonderful work to leave behind.

Full of interesting historical facts and the origins of many recipes today and easy to read and dip into and come back to, but I am glad I wasn't around to eat in those olden days. I find even jugged hare a bit of a challenge now, and I still need a really good modern recipe for pheasant which the whole family can enjoy; of which too many now crowd the freezer.
