5.0 out of 5 stars Shiny Happy Yellow
If you enjoy subtle ironic self-deprecating humor and you love writers who can paint pictures with words you'll probably love this little story. I read it for the first time this last week and laughed all the way through. Huxley had a keen understanding of human nature. I'd compare the book to one of Pieter Bruegel's paintings. 1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 18 Jan. 2008

This review is from: Crome Yellow (Paperback)
I was very disappointed in this book, and struggled to reach the end. If it is indeed a comedy satire as another reviewer suggests, (and I bow to what may be superior knowledge) I do not think it comes across as such in the early part of the 20th century. When it was written it may have been a comment on the pretentions of the upper class, but from this distance I found it was just boring. I am quite happy with a story where nothing much happens as long as the writing is good enough to justify that. With Crome Yellow this is just not the case, it bored me to tears.
