i had great hopes from this book as it was a quentin blake , and my daughter and i have loved his other books very much. but in this one he seems to lose control, what is he getting at? it is not fun to read, the text is forced and the storyline is not smooth (unlike his other books which are just lovely -- eg. the clown/ mr.magnolia/ abcs) . i would avoid buying this, looking back ..

I bought this book knowing it was second hand, but was disappointed to find that a child had practiced spellings on the back cover so there was quite a bit of writing on it.
However it's a lovely book which lends itself to discussion of serious issues (child labour, war, pollution) with children.
