5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant as usual
Tom Sharpe is THE funniest writer ever, his dry confusion and willingness to state the obvious has me in stitches.
Brilliant read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good fun, but not as light as Wilt
The great pursuit revolves around a publicity trip which goes horribly wrong. All the ingredients of a good farce are in here - rioting, false identities, grotesque characters, mad passions, trips to police stations and a bit of suspected arson and attempted murder thrown in too. The plot is promising, but somehow it's just not that funny. I enjoyed Wilt, Vintage stuff...

I enjoyed Wilt, Vintage stuff and Porterhouse Blue, and have read a few of his other books, and I thought that this didn't quite measure up. But it's still worth a read on a rainy afternoon.

The headline sounds like a criticism but it attempts to be a parody of what Sharpe is parodying. Readers who know even a little about academic lit crit will recognise the po-faced characterisation of someone famous. Whether the changes were necessary is up to the reader to determine but read it and see it on at least two levels.

Very funny. I am now barred from reading Tom Sharpe at night because I laughed so much, I can't help it, that I keep waking the wife up.

I would say not one of Tom Sharpe's best, however, I do find it humorous in places. not worth the price.

Not one of Mr Sharp's best but amusing enough and worth a read if you're short of material. Get the feeling he changed he ending at some point because he felt a little disjointed.
