5.0 out of 5 stars Well laid out book with some creative recipes
This is an excellent book if you're looking for interesting low calorie recipes. It is well laid out and looks good with uncluttered pages. Each recipe is colour-coded according to the amount of calories (0-100, 101-200, 201-300, 301-400, 401-500) and at the top of each recipe is a simple breakdown of calories per serving, how many servings, preparation time and cooking...

This review is from: The Fasting Day Cookbook: 120 easy recipes for the 5:2 diet (Cookery) (Paperback)
This is an excellent book if you're looking for interesting low calorie recipes. It is well laid out and looks good with uncluttered pages. Each recipe is colour-coded according to the amount of calories (0-100, 101-200, 201-300, 301-400, 401-500) and at the top of each recipe is a simple breakdown of calories per serving, how many servings, preparation time and cooking time. The recipes are separated into chapters based on each meal of the day, with a meal plan at the end of the book. There is also a simple description of the recipe with possible variations and whether something is freezable. One thing to note about this book is that for the 120 recipes, there are (without counting) maybe 30 or so photographs. Therefore most of the time you're cooking without seeing what the final outcome should look like. This can be a problem with some recipe books, but I think with this one it's not as issue as there's nothing too elaborate. Having said that, there is plenty of creativity within the recipes to keep things interesting, using various herbs, spices and seeds. It's a relatively simple book, but there are some good ideas which all but the most accomplished professional chef would find useful I'm sure. I'd strongly recommend it.

A very helpful book to someone doing the 5:2 diet, although I would have liked to have seen a few "out of the cupboard" recipes for when you are in a rush!

Lots of good photos and helpful calorie counting but I find that often the recipes are for four or even six and which aren't that easy to scale down if just one of you is following the diet. I have taken lots of ideas out of it though.

Arrived on time and well packed. The good thing about this book is that it has the calories beside every recipe so that helps unless there's something in the recipe like 'Puy Lentils' that you don't like then you have to start calculating what you can replace them with. Some recipes have pictures and some don't. Some things look quite good in the picture but after mucking about making them, I found them a bit bland. However, the book is of some help if you want to give this diet a go. I, haven't lost any weight!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly disappointing, 30 Jan 2014

I bought this on the basis of the glowing reviews. I know Intermittent dieting works so the reason I bought this was to have practical down to earth sensible recipes for everyday people. The recipes here would only work if you had your own servants to purchase and prepare all the ingredients for the, possibly, tasty recipes. That is, if your kitchen staff would be prepared to get up way before your breakfast time, to prepare these 'glossy' recipes.

I was guided by the feedback, and the 'EASY' in the book title, (I have to admit that it doesn't say QUICK AND EASY! However, the book's description should have given me the clue.... see here:

''With recipes for Glazed chicken wings, Beef satay, Lime-marinated halibut and Almond fudge crumbles, you won't be going hungry - and fasting days will be as much fun as feasting days!'' But, you'll spend all your time buying and throwing away fancy ingredients for recipes that will take ages to prepare.

Maybe it's OK for those who enjoy cooking as a hobby, AND have the time to indulge themselves in this pastime. However, I think that it's bordering on being ridiculous for many and is likely to be inappropriate for 'hard working families'.

I'm returning my copy for a refund using Amazon's sensible process using local shops.

I was getting bored with salad on my fasting day and decided to get this book after reading the other reviews. So far the recipes that I have tried have been very tasty and I've enjoyed preparing them too.
