What a fabulous book, crammed full of top notch funny quotes. So many books like this have about ten good quotes, which they put on the cover to entice you to buy them, and the rest is just padded out with unfunny fillers. Absolutely NOT the case here though - so many brilliant quotes. No toilet is complete without one of these on the shelf! If you ever have to do a leaving speech, a presentation or any other sort of public speaking, this essential reference book is an absolute MUST HAVE.
You'll also love "The Funniest Thing You Never Said" (even BETTER than this!), "Grumpy Old Wit" and "A Word From The Wise" from the same author.

For the price, this book represents superb value for money. Perfect for light reading, in short bursts on the bus, plane or train. Drawn from every walk of life (love, the sexes, celebrity, sport, parenthood, politics and even the animal kingdom) it's endlessly quotable and you can always find something relevant. At almost 600 pages, there's something on the order of 10,000 individual citations and almost every one hits the nail right on the er, funny bone. Highly recommended!
If you see that the compiler is Rosemarie Jarski you can be assured of a quality, well researched, and thoroughly entertaining anthology of wit and wisdom. Quite how she maintains such high standards with her fairly frequent output of compilations, is indeed a wonder....but she does! And this book is no exception, as it is highly readable, containing lots of quotations and the like, that I have not come across before, and I have lots of 'Wit Compilations'.
As a previous reviewer commented, this type of book needs to be read in small bites, otherwise one gets 'humour' overload which results in one quote blurring into the next, and the impact on the 'humour buds' lessening.
A typical entry is (from memory not verbatim) :-
Guardian first edition "C B Fry's party piece at Cambridge was to leap backwards off the carpet onto a mantelpiece, from a standing fart."
The second edition had amended the report to "............from a standing tart."
The third edition was further amended to "............from a standing start."
Rosemarie Jarski you are the best - thank you for the immense amount of entertainment that you have given me, and others, and I sincerely hope you will continue to do so for a long time to come.

Many 'famous amusing quotation' books are very hit-or-miss. However this one is worthy of mention as there is virtually no 'filler' material - the quotes here are of a generally consistent high standard. It's the sort of book that you can leave on your coffee table, and a visitor will pick it up and then still be sitting there half an hour later, rolling with laughter and constantly saying "oh, you have to hear this one....".
Very highly recommended! :-)
