It's okay for a C beginner. simplified with practical examples well explained. It's also wonderful as a bridge from Assembly to C.

This review is from: PIC Projects and Applications Using C: A Project-based Approach (Paperback)
This is a must-buy book if you want to get into PIC technolgy.

It is based on the 18 series, using the 18F1220, which can be used as a basis for bigger chips in the same seriess. He sticks to Microchip's own MPLAB/MPLABX and C compiler, both free to download from their web site, and he uses their PICKIT3 programmer/debugger which is $69 or the ICD3 which is $190

He does not plunge into time-wasting thick chapters on C or the internal structure of microcontrollers. This is unusual for an academic, but I notice he has an industry background which makes him more realistic. He introduces and explains each feature and C instruction as required in the examples.

In order, he deals with inputs/outputs, keypads, A/D conversion, alphanumeric displays, timers, interrupts, simulator/debugger, radio transmission and receiving, plus 5 final projects which collectively use every feature.

This a great book, and is (mercifully) readable, practical and short, at 180 pages
