Overall, this a useful book and would help anyone getting to grips with the wiring regs. However, please could it be properly proof-read so that any new printing would have some equations and units corrected and the occasional explanation clarified.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great guide to the Regs., 27 Dec. 2010
This review is from: A Practical Guide to the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations (Paperback)
Anyone who has ever tackled the IEE Wiring Regulations would probably be grateful of a personal guided tour through the maze of the 17th Edition.

Chris Kitcher is an Electrical Installation lecturer with a passion for his subject. This book walks the reader through the regs, chapter by chapter, cutting through the jargon and giving clear guidance on the sometimes confusing terminology using plain language.

Chris helps the reader to understand the reasoning behind many of the regulations and offers practical solutions some of which may be a revelation to even the most experienced electrician.
I would recommend this book as an excellent source of information for both students and experienced electricians alike. SK-ElectriciansBlog.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy read no nonsense guide, 3 Nov. 2010
This review is from: A Practical Guide to the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations (Paperback)
There are many books on the market which attempt to explain the regulations; most look as complex as the regulations themselves. This book explains the regulations as opposed to simply repeating them. The tone of this book is conversational and it is an easy read.

The book takes a look at the regulations step by step and tells you what to do in order to comply with them. In brief it tells you all those things a decent regulations lesson would explain. If you liked Chris' previous book Practical Guide to Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations: Conforms to 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671:2008) and Part P of Building Regulations you will like this one too.

I know Chris personally and am proud to endorse this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not very broad-ranging, 3 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: A Practical Guide to the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations (Paperback)
A good book if you want the calculations and trickier scenarios to hand, but seems to spend a disproportionate amount of time on some aspects while giving minimal coverage of other subject areas that I'd consider "practical" advice. Quite a lot of pages given to solar PV, caravan parks, swimming pools and the like and about a quarter of the book on inspection and testing including loads of sample documents, which seems a bit much. Would have been nice to see some more day-to-day stuff in there, commercial & domestic best practices.

5.0 out of 5 stars An electricians guide written by an electrician, 9 Nov. 2010
This review is from: A Practical Guide to the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations (Paperback)
I have had the pleasure of passing many electrical courses taught by Cris. He has always explained things in a manner that sticks in your mind and leaves you saying, ' Oh yeah i get it now!'. This book brings his class room tactics to paper in an easy to read and understand manner.

I liked this book, as it explains things in 'layman's terms'. I gained a better understanding and more depth with the subject. It answers many questions and as such I will keep refering to it in the future I think, when I think of new questions.

This review is from: A Practical Guide to the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations (Paperback)
This book cuts through the confusing jargon, tries and succeeds to make it all that much clearer. A great book for any one trying to come to a better understanding of the latest regs.
