This review is from: Brukner & Khan's Clinical Sports Medicine (Mcgraw Medical) (Hardcover)
I am an orthopaedic trainee sitting the Diploma of Sports Medicine exam.I found this book very useful for preparation. It is very well written, the chapters are logically organised user friendly and the content is excellent and easy to read. The illustrations and table are fantastic and easy to refer to for revision just before the exam and the index in comprehensive. I was so impressed with the third edition which I borrowed from the library that I ordered the 4th edition immediately and I was so glad to see the relevant important chapters on pain, sudden death in sport, challenging hip pain and hamstring tears. Highly recommended for enthusiastic orthopaedic trainees as many of the common useful concepts like rehabilitation, types of exercises etc are not so well explained in orthopaedic references. The only downside is that an electronic copy is not available online (like student consult, expertconsult or skyscape) which I use for other books. The online resources are fantastic for preparation before the exam but examination of the spine is missing! Nutrition chapter is removed as well.

Just my opinion that this is the best book out there, easy to use, and this edition brings it right up to date with the current research.

4th edition - another major advance - woohoo!,
This review is from: Brukner & Khan's Clinical Sports Medicine (Mcgraw Medical) (Hardcover)
Pleased to share the news that this has 40% new material over the 3rd (white) edition. If you are still using a 2nd (red) edition, do everyone a favour and move up to this 2012 - best yet - version of Clinical Sports Medicine (green cover illustrated on the right there). What remains great? The clinical relevance, the artwork, the easy to find treatment tables and the wealth of illustrations. It is a BEAUTIFUL book. And it is in stock - yeah!!What's new? Lots and lots - can you believe how much has changed in 6 years! 200 new photos/graphics of clinical tips. 13 new chapters!! See the website [...] for a full tour but a taste includes (i) management of hamstring injuries, (ii) management of hip and groin problems, (iii) neck pain with Gwen Jull, (iv) core stability and and patellofemoral pain, (v) management protocol for ACL treatment where indicated, (vi) sudden death in sports, (vii) concussion guidelines (Zurich), (viii) emergency medicine, (ix) Military medicine, (x) pain science and its role in clinical practice with Lorimer Moseley. I'm going to stop there but do take the tour. You can also get clinical tips for free on Twitter (at) CSM4ed The [...] page will include a regular blog of tips. It took a lead team of 9 authors with over 100 chapter authors to get this book out - so definitely worth considering the upgrade. Treat two patients and you've paid for the book.

I bought this book as my son is studying sports therapy at uni and they suggested this book. Fabulous book, large and heavy though but packed full of info which will last a lifetime throughout his career. Fabulous service. Book sold as used but looked brand new
