5.0 out of 5 stars French Grammar, 29 July 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Schaum's Outline of French Grammar (Schaum's Outline Series) (Paperback)
This is a great book packed full of explanations and exercises to practise the key aspects of each chapter. The book is split into sections including verbs, numbers, adjectives, adverbs, etc. Each chapter starts with the very basic concepts on the grammatical concept and builds on this with relevant exercises until the next step is introduced. The book is well-structured and builds up information, layer upon layer and methodically. All the answers are at the back. This "workbook" is excellent for filling in gaps of knowledge and for refreshing your French grammar, or for someone of intermediate level wishing to reinforce their grammar and to learn more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 7 Jan 2007
This review is from: Schaum's Outline of French Grammar (Schaum's Outline Series) (Paperback)
This is a really excellent book for learning French step-by-step. The explanations are clear and thorough, and it is logically laid out. I highly recommend it. The only aspect I found that was not quite perfect is the index - it isn't always easy to find something you know is in there from the index, but that is mainly because it is packed so full of useful information.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Useful Primer, 7 May 2007

Jon D "Jon in France" (South Vendée, France) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Schaum's Outline of French Grammar (Schaum's Outline Series) (Paperback)
A generally well organised primer for those planning to take French to a serious level. The book is well laid out and the explainations are for the most part very clear.

There are one or two errors in the book (for example in the list of impersonal clauses that take the subjunctive - I hasten to add that my native French speaking teacher identified these, not me), but not significant enough to devalue it. The cross referencing is a little patchy in places and some of the exercises on the dry side, but then since when was grammar supposed to be fun!

The section on verb usage is mostly excellent but the section on pronouns would benefit from expansion and clearer examples. Overall though, a very good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing book of French grammar!, 24 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Schaum's Outline of French Grammar (Schaum's Outline Series) (Paperback)
I have been looking for this book, a more recent edition for a long period of time. I have the first edition which is very old, but still gives me anything I want in terms of French grammar. Now, when, just by chance, I discovered on Amazon.com, that I could get a more recent version, I did not hesitate to order one and I have it now. It is an excellent book. It has a huge number of grammar drills on any grammatical notion one might encounters. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great series!, 24 Mar 2011
This review is from: Schaum's Outline of French Grammar (Schaum's Outline Series) (Paperback)
I had bought German and Spanish books from these series before this French edition and they are all excellent if you need to refresh your grammar quickly in preparation for A Level exams. The structure is clear with a theoretical explanation of the grammar case followed by easy exercises and then harder exercises. Answers are at the end of the book making it easy to use it as a self-study material. I would recommend to anyone wishing to brush up on their grammar and is pressed for time.

Really pleased with this book. It is a no-frills book of grammar drills which is probably best suited to those who have done a little French before to the very good (not complete beginners).
