When their father dies, Gwyneth and her brother are left to run Haverleigh. But then her brother is kidnapped, and with Gwyneth running the honour, troubles come as it nearly is broke. Thinks look up when Gavin the thief comes. All he has known is being a thief, but he comes to the aid of Gwyneth, keeping her from marriage someone she does not want and protecting Haverleigh. He organises the farmers and trains them in combat. Along the way, they relieve their partnership is evolving into something more rewarding.
Moore has a penchant for having her heroes a bit more down to earth. He is generally poor and trying to find his way in the world and they are very refreshing.
