This review is from: L.A. Son : My Life, My City, My Food (Hardcover)
I became a Roy Choi fan after watching Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown L.A. episode. I had recently returned to the UK from a trip to L.A. where food is always a focal point of my trips. Roy's L.A. tour on the show was magic. I'm grateful for my in-laws giving me his book for my birthday. As other reviewers say, its a fast easy read. For me personally, I felt like I was running through Downtown LA streets with him and hanging with the same group of kids. Roy shows you why L.A. food is like no other. Its a combination of neighbourhoods and flavours. I remember food by invoking a time and place. You don't need a posh restaurant or a Black Amex to get these flavours. LA is full of foodies and Roy Choi's life in LA has shaped him into being an consummate LA Foodie.
