5.0 out of 5 stars The Last Word
Eugene Peterson, the man who has given us the Message Bible has great skill with words and uses them so effectively to unpack the last words of the Bible on a host of subjects from church to judgement and salvation. Wonderfully written, stimulating and thought provoking, but a book full of the hope of the Christian faith.

1.0 out of 5 stars like the ApostleJohn
Rating posted too quickly I would make it five stars - it puts the book of revelation in true biblical perspective showing a sensitive understanding of the way apocalyptic literature works. There are occasional minor points of interpretation on which I would differ, but that's the nature of theological debate. Peterson, like the ApostleJohn, is both a poet and a pastor.

5.0 out of 5 stars The finest pastoral commentary available, 10 Aug 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Reversed Thunder: The Revelation of John and the Praying Imagination (Paperback)
Look no further; read no more. Settle in and digest this book slowly. Peterson weaves the threads of biblical themes into an understandable symphonic and pastoral commentary of Revelation.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Author is in control of His story, 18 April 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Reversed Thunder: The Revelation of John and the Praying Imagination (Paperback)
Peterson reduces the complicated and poetic eschatology of the Revelation to a simple thesis: God is in control of history. And since the beginning and end are good, we who are "in the middle" must prayerfully trust the Author in spite of our trials, as we turn the next page.

A great guide through Revelation although I did need a dictionary for some words he uses. Given the foregoing it still gives clarity.

A good book but one which is prone to be a bit too wordy and short on expository detail. .

4.0 out of 5 stars A vivid, thought-provoking look at a mysterious book, 15 Dec 2013

This review is from: Reversed Thunder: The Revelation of John and the Praying Imagination (Paperback)
Eugene Peterson takes a typically insightful and inspiring look at a much-misunderstood bible book, not getting bogged down in minutiae, he gives the reader plenty to inspire and motivate.
