4.0 out of 5 stars amusing poem for kids, 8 May 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bed Book (Paperback)
This is a very imaginative longish poem descring lots and lots of possible beds. The ordinary sort of bed are quickly dealt with, the main portion of the book is an assortment of weird and wonderful beds like the birdwatcher's bed, the elephant bed, the tank bed, a bed that can fly, a North-Pole bed and so on. Quentin Blake's illustrations are odd and hilarious as usual. The poem's more interesting for its imagination than its form. There are lots of bits that almost glitter but that need some rather creative reading to make them rhythmical, like this:
NOT just a white little
Tucked-in-tight little
Nighty-night little
Turn-out-the-light little
But the images in the poem are such fun, and along with the illustrations the book really sparked the imagination of my nearly-four year old, and reading it moved nicely into a bedtime game of what *her* bed can do.
