This book is an introductory text at an higher level than the Kittel's book "Introduction to Solid State Physics" and at a lower level than "The Principles of the theory Solids" by Ziman. It clearly spans almost every branch of solid state physics. Some parts -e.g. Boltzman equation and transport properties - are only briefly described. An important support to the study are the many given problems at the end of any chapter. It is really a good book but according to my experience the most serious defect is in the binding of the book with hardcover: I got two copies and both copies broke within a week...so that now I am playing with flying sheets! Upon request electronic images are available.

Without saying the obvious this book is essential reading for all students studying the solid state : particularly metals.

The point i wish to communicate is simply to be aware that the Indian Edition of this book has been printed with an exceedingly small margin: Which means that the text can appear to curve into the spine of the book while reading. Bending the pages on the left hand side down sorts this out but its a bit annoying.

Otherwise the Indian Edition is fine and i would recommend it.

This book is an introductory text which spans almost every branch of solid state phyiscs. The exposition is clear, but the subjects are not thoroughly treated. Some parts -e.g. interband transitions - are only hinted. The most serious defect is the complete absence of references and bibliography

This is a classic text on solid state physics. I work primarily in the field semiconductor physics and many of these chapters have proved useful during my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

The book itself seems pretty decent. This cheap Indian edition, however, is not very good. The pages are super thin and the text is too close to the inner margin.

A broad spectrum book, I found it very useful for reading during University module. I would thoroughly recommend this book for condensed matter introduction

A complete and good book for studies in the field of Solid State Physics. Conditions were perfect. The book is brand new.

The book is accurate and useful. It is well laid out. The book was purchased as a set text on a MPhys (physics) degree.
