5.0 out of 5 stars The best baking book I've seen .. ever.
I first heard about Dan's recipes from my sister. You must follow his recipes in the Guardian she said - they always work and they turn out exactly as they do in the picture. She was right and I've cooked so many of Dan's recipes and they always work every time. (In fact I have a sourdough loaf baking in the oven as I write this review!) I've make the Lemon curd today...

3.0 out of 5 stars Shame about the quality!
The recipes are just divine. The book cover is not.
I bought a couple as gifts but will be returning them. The spine & corners rip incredibly easily. It's like the book has been covered with newsprint.
Such a shame as it would have made a wonderful Christmas gift, if the quality were of a higher standard.
I will be keeping one copy for...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bad for your diet, excelent food!,
This review is from: Short and Sweet (Kindle Edition)Everything i bake from this book turns out better than expected and i am a person with high expectations. Really. Bread receipes are better than the recipes from the other 6 books I own, especcially by telling what can go wrong (and not to worry). Tried out several cake recipes which delighted my husband. Best baking book so far
5.0 out of 5 stars really good,
This review is from: Short and Sweet (Hardcover)made a few things out of the book -two types of bread andother things (and not had any disasters yet!)
5.0 out of 5 stars Get straight to the important details with this book!,
This review is from: Short and Sweet (Kindle Edition)I chose this book because I've enjoyed Dan's pieces in various newspapers and websites and I'm currently trying to take my baking to the next level... The recipes and techniques plus the technical information has really helped, particularly with my bread-making. I now feel I actually understand what I'm doing and why.
The downside? I purchased the Kindle version (I live in Bulgaria and couldn't wait for delivery!) and it's a bit difficult to follow recipes (and find recipes; though Kindle's search facility helps a lot) because of the page size, and you don't have easy access to the book's index to help you find things... But for the sheer volume of recipes and helpful information I can't recommend it highly enough!
5.0 out of 5 stars Short and Sweet,
This review is from: Short and Sweet (Hardcover)I was given this last Christmas and it's so good that i've started buying it for other people. I bake a lot and this is the best book I've read in years, the recipes are clearly laid out and have good accurate instructions. There is plenty of content and really do-able recipes that work!
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book,
This review is from: Short and Sweet (Hardcover)Thank you Dan Lepard, I had never made a cake, have now (Butterscotch Banana Cake) or Soda Bread (lovely with smoked salmon) and had a problem with my bread splitting at the bottom (no slit at the top) All sorted by you and now I feel confident to tackle anything in the book. My wife is a chef and she loves the things I have baked from this book and she is not the sort to be kind if it isn't good. The neading with oil is (to me) unusual and in fact in another book he does say you can use a dusting of flour instead, I found this easier. Highly recommend this book. The only recipes I am not happy with are the pies where he says use a tin of soup, c'mon Dan this is such a brilliant book a tin of soup should not be in it, still everything else is excellent.
5.0 out of 5 stars One of The Best,
This review is from: Short and Sweet (Hardcover)I originally borrowed this book from my local library and was so impressed by it that i bought it. The introduction to each recipe makes up for the lack of pictures, every recipe that i have so far tried has turned out as it should, it has now become the first book that i look at when i want a baking recipe and the method for making bread really does work
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent,
This review is from: Short and Sweet (Hardcover)We brought the Short & Sweet cook book for our son inlaw at Xmas as he loves to cook especially baking. He found it very informative with plenty of good recipes. Arrived safe and sound, excellent service.
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant,
This review is from: Short and Sweet (Hardcover)A fantastic introduction to baking for novices & those who have some knowledge but wish to improve. I especially like the explanation of the theories of baking which start each section & learning these has made me a much better baker who doesnt even need a recipe
4.0 out of 5 stars lOVELY RECIPES,
This review is from: Short and Sweet (Hardcover)A very interesting book with good recipes. I like the extra information rarely found in other such books. Only let down by the binding and cover which is unlikely to stand the test of time and constant handling of cookery books.
5.0 out of 5 stars Dan my Guru!,
This review is from: Short and Sweet (Hardcover)This book is BRILLIANT! Starting with bread Dan shows you step by step 'how to' with his minimal knead recipes. The mid section gives lovely biscuit, cake and topping ideas and then you have pastry and savoury ideas. All recipes I've tried have worked extremely well and if you are not a baker I would definitely give this book a go. A trial and not fail kind of book! Excellent.
