I usually enjoy Reginald Hill very much. This book was originally published under a pseudonym. It is set in Uganda at the start of Amin's rule, and in England in the present. What happened then is supposed to determine what happens now, etc. It is rather a disappointment. Shorter than his usual books. One gets the impression that he wants to get it over with. so does the reader. Choose one of his other enjoyable books. The ones he was willing to admit he had written.

So what if this is a shorter book, as mentioned by the previous reviewer. Does not mean it is any less credible. It is an honest appraisal of British action concerning certain countries in Africa. It does not pull any punches. It does not put Britain in a very good light. I very much appreciated Mr. Hill's candidness. I am sure many of us wish he had lived longer to give us more of his excellent writing.

Reg Hill is one of my favourite authors, but this book was nowhere near his usual standard.Only the action bits were exciting. The rest was bitty and hard to follow.A strange format which didn't work for me,and the characters boring,
